After a pilot phase in which several research teams have already been able to successfully implement projects on EO-Lab, this unique, national Earth observation and AI laboratory is now ready for scientists and developers in the first expansion stage.
Even in this stage of expansion, the complete cloud infrastructure, a variety of tools and services for data processing, and extensive remote sensing data are available through the synergy with CODE-DE and CREODIAS. Registration to EO-Lab is activated and resources can be requested. The EO-Lab support team is happy to assist and also helps with individual configuration.
Over the next few months, the range of data, especially on national missions, will be further expanded, an e-learning platform will be established, and the online information offering will be further developed in scope and detail. In cooperation with CODE-DE, a communication forum will be implemented to support the exchange of experiences between all users of EO-Lab and CODE-DE and thus facilitate lively cooperation.
The EO-Lab cloud is part of the Strategy "Artificial Intelligence" of the German Federal Government. It provides German entities for science and development easy and efficient access to earth observation data, a virtual working environment for processing these data, as well as extensive information and training to support users. The EO-Lab Cloud stands for:
EO-Lab promotes the scientific utilisation of data from national EO-missions and from the Copernicus Program as well as the development of efficient, automated process chains and innovative EO-applications. The scientific use of AI-methods is particularly welcome. Developers from both scientific and commercial entities are invited to design and demonstrate new processes and applications on EO-Lab. They have quotas for data, computing and storage resources available on the EO-Lab platform. These quotas will be allocated based on user applications and are prioritised according to categories of research and development projects if necessary:
Interested parties can apply for time-limited test quotas via a simplified approval procedure in order to gain initial experience with EO-Lab.
The German Space Agency, on behalf of the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz (BMWK), has contracted the company CloudFerro to build and operate EO-Lab starting 01.10.2021 and to link it with the EO cloud CODE-DE. Subcontractors are:
