The German Space Agency provides PlanetScope, RapidEye and RESA archive data free of charge via EO-Lab. Access requires an application. New data is ordered annually or can be requested individually.
The German Space Agency at DLR provides research institutions and start-ups in Germany with free access to PlanetScope and RapidEye data from Planet Labs Germany GmbH for research, development and teaching purposes. In addition, the RapidEye Science Archive (RESA), which has been providing commercial high-resolution satellite data since 2008 for free, will also be continued.
Both data sets are now accessible via the EO-Lab platform. In order to gain access, it is necessary to submit an application.
All RapidEye data ever acquired over Germany are now hosted on EO-Lab, offering valuable historical imagery for environmental monitoring, land use analysis, and other geospatial applications. Additionally, the full RESA archive, consisting of selected RapidEye, SkySat and PlanetScope scenes inside and outside Germany, has been made accessible.
The German Space Agency at DLR plans to continue providing access to commercial ‘New Space’ satellite data for science, research and development in the coming years. Every year, the German EO community can submit their data requirements via a process called PlanetScope Calls. Based on these requests, DLR purchases new satellite data from Planet Labs Germany. This data is then added to the EO Lab archive.
In addition, users can request smaller amounts of data through PlanetScope User Requests. These are meant for individual use and won’t be added to the EO-Lab archive.
With this expansion, EO-Lab continues to strengthen its role as a key hub for scientific and applied Earth Observation research in Germany.
